Sustainable Community: Where We Go From Here

Please take a look at the attached newsletter article on a major sustainability conference, Where We Go From Here, held early October at the Omega Institute, Rhinebeck, NY.

The conference featured over a dozen sustainability leaders and I have reviewed the presentations of Jeremy Rifkin, Paul Hawken, David Orr and Rob Hopkins; concluding with a summary model of how we can get there following the major theme of those presentations:  local, post carbon and connected.

You will find a link in the article to a blog post on the emerging field of Community Ecosystems Mapping, based on systems ecology, that is seeking to build virtual, local, sustainable community.

I also reported the startup of the Mid-Atlantic Transition Hub (MATH) and its upcoming Waterways Reskilling conference, November 23-24, 2013, at New Paltz, New York.  You can find information about that conference at this link:  http://transitionmidatlantic.org/waterways-reskilling-information/.

Thank you

What is a Transition Town?

Transition Towns across the globe are quickly addressing the reality of Climate Change, Peak Oil and Economic Decline with creative and positive solutions.
There are over 400 globally and over 106 in the USA.
In the US Transition Westchester is the 106th initiative.
Transition Towns avoid fear based rhetoric, they are committed folks who want to ensure a hopeful and optimistic future for our kids.
Transition Towns are made of dedicated groups of citizens focusing on the life support systems of a community: Food, energy, economy, community
Transition Towns also focus on the arts, music, play and the fun parts of life that create tightly knit societies founded on harmony and trust.
